General Information top

From the very beginning, we all struggle for control of our lives; for comfort, for security, for independence. Our success in our struggles depends a great deal upon our natural strengths and abilities as well as how friendly and supportive our surroundings are.

Success can be measured by increases in freedom and independence

Success can be achieved through training and support services

Training and support assure success and increased independence

The success of the Tri-Cities Residential Services programs, can be measured by increases in the freedom and independence of our program participants. Our goal is to help them in their effort to achieve these objectives.

Tri-Cities Residential Services is an organization whose purpose, since it began in 1978, has been to provide training and support to those who are developmentally disabled.

Our programs offer options ranging from 24-hour care and supervision, to periodic visits with individuals who are living in their own homes. The needs of each individual program participant determine which of our several programs is best suited for his/ her particular situation.

Types of training and levels of support are specifically tailored to the needs of each individual program participant. Benefits for individuals participating in our program include:

  • Training in maintaining good health.
  • Development of necessary precautions to increase personal safety.
  • Support in exercising personal power and choice.
  • Enhanced personal value and positive recognition by self and others.
  • Exposure to a range of experiences which encourage involvement in community activities.
  • Improved ability to develop and maintain good relationships with friends and relatives.
  • The development of competence to manage daily activities and pursue personal goals.

The cost of services for most residents is covered by programs offered through various governmental agencies. Some participants pay for their own services, or receive financial support from their families.

Values top

TRUE:  We are consistent with fact and reality.  We strive to be reliable and accurate.   We can be counted on to be genuine, faithful, honorable, upright in our conduct.  We will be unswerving on carrying out our mission, vision, and values.  We are TRUE in our relationships with customers, fellow team members, contractors, community resources, and community partners.

CUSTOMER FOCUSED:  Serving others.  We continually seek to understand the needs of all of those who depend on us (our clients, contractors, community partners, community resources, our fellow team members and agency personnel).  Then we strive to exceed all their expectations.

RESULTS ORIENTED:  Every one of us takes responsibility for meeting our commitments—our personal ones as well as those of the entire organization.  We take ownership of the results.  We never stand still:  we are never satisfied.  All of us—individually and as teams—constantly look at everything we do and ask, “How can we do this better?”  Then, we use a systematic approach to take action.

SYNERGY:  One for all, and all for one.  We work together, sharing a common purpose, a common culture, and common goals.  We genuinely care for and support, not only those to whom we provide care, but those with whom we work shoulder to shoulder, to do everything necessary to achieve our mission and vision.

COMMUNICATION:  We value open, honest, candid, respectful growth producing dialogue.  We encourage the sharing of divergent views in helping move us forward.  We value and encourage each member’s contribution to ideas, issues, and strategies.  Communicating is the foremost tool we use in providing effective and efficient quality service to our customers.

AGILITY:  We strive to respond in a quick and easy fashion to the demands of our commitments.  We are active, alert, and nimble in caring out our responsibilities in order to fulfill our mission with the “Best Practice” strategies being used.

RESPECT:  We say what we believe, and do what we say.  We are trusted because we are trustworthy.  Our personal, team, and organizational values are aligned with everything we say and everything we do.

EMPOWERMENT:  We believe we control our destiny and can “authorize” others, through training and support, to be  master’s” of their own destiny.  We are committed to improving our skills, knowledge, and abilities in order to perform our job with the highest degree of success.  We are “authorized” to make a difference and impact in fulfilling our mission by innovative, creative, daring. . . .

SUPPORT & SERVICES:  We enjoy what we do.  Providing residential services is hard work, but even hard work can be fun.  We take our job seriously.  We strive for excellence and have fun.

The Invisible Agency top

In working with individuals with developmental disabilities, our focus is to assist them in enhancing their self-esteem, personal growth, self-sufficiency, and quality of life by providing training and support in areas such as health and safety; enhancing personal value and status; exercising personal power and choice; exposure and involvement in community activities; encouraging relationships with friends and families; and the development of competencies to manage daily activities and pursue personal goals.

If we do our job right we are invisible, because we assist our participants to become an integral and vital part of our communities, blending into the fabric and "life breath" of the Tri-Cities.

Our mission is to partner with the individuals we serve in being 'Hope-Builders" and "Dream Makers". Sandy, who has cerebral palsy, is symbolic of the individuals with whom we work. In 1978, she moved from her family home into our program that offered 24-hour supports. Through her determination, skill, and strength of character, today she is living in her own apartment with minimal support from us, working at a job she loves, giving back to the community through volunteer activities, and has developed a wonderful circle of friends. Simple accomplishments? Not at all!! For Sandy, these are significant successes that have enhanced her quality of life... and everyone else's, too!
